About the Journal

RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya transcends all three fields of language, literature, and culture, with a focus on language management within the Austronesian and Malayonesian contexts. RENTAS emphasises contemporary issues related to standardization and corpus planning, globalisation, internationalisation, and digital humanities in relation to language, literature, and culture.

RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budayawelcomes the submission of high-quality manuscripts in both Malay and English that pay attention to interdisciplinary research and innovation, as well as reflection on focal issues. 

RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya is indexed by MyJurnal, Google Scholar, Cross-Ref,  Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Open Alex, ROAD, Scientific Indexing Services (SIS) and Asian Science Citation Index (ASCI).

The journal is published once a year (July) and it does not charge for the submission or processing of articles.

Review Process

The RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya peer-review policy is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and supporting ethical research practices. RENTAS’s reviewers adhere to the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers. Peer review, in all forms, is crucial for ensuring the integrity of the scholarly record. This process relies heavily on trust and requires everyone involved to act responsibly and ethically. Peer reviewers are essential to this process, yet they often assume the role without adequate guidance and may not be fully aware of their ethical responsibilities. The COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers outline the fundamental principles and standards that all peer reviewers should follow during the peer-review process. These guidelines aim to offer valuable guidance to researchers, serve as a reference for journals and editors in directing their reviewers, and act as an educational resource for institutions training their students and researchers.

1.  Type of Peer Review

The RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya utilizes a ‘double blind’ review process, ensuring that referees remain anonymous to the author(s) throughout and after the review process, while the identity of the author(s) also remain unknown to the reviewers. Authors must submit the title page (containing full author information) separately from the main manuscript.

2.  Referee Selection Process

Referees are selected based on their expertise relevant to the manuscript submitted. The reviewer database of RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya is continuously updated. RENTAS welcomes referee suggestions from the author(s), although these recommendations are non-binding and may not be utilized. Each manuscript submitted will be reviewed by at least two independent referees, after which the editor will make a final decision.

3.  Referee reports

Referees will be asked to evaluate the manuscript based on the following criteria:

• The manuscript demonstrated originality in thought, methodology and data;
• The research is methodologically robust;
• The manuscript presents result clearly with statistical analysis and whether it supports the conclusion;
• The manuscript correctly and thoroughly cites previous relevant;
• The manuscript   adheres   to   appropriate   ethical   guidelines, particularly plagiarism; and
• The research significantly contributes to the knowledge and advancement of the field.

Language correction is not part of the peer-review process, but referees can suggest improvements to the language and style of the manuscript. During the final round, the editor will review the manuscript for linguistic and stylistic accuracy, and therefore may apply or recommending corrections as needed. In rare instances, the author(s) may need to do proofreading or comprehensive linguistic and style revisions by returning the manuscript.

4.  Peer Review Process

Upon receiving an email invitation to review a journal article, the referee should respond by clicking the provided link to indicate whether they are able to review the manuscript. Following this, the referee can proceed with the steps outlined on the website. The referee may either fill in the comments for the author box or upload a file with their comments. Later, each reviewer is required to make an initial decision by selecting one of the options provided.

1. Accept submission: The manuscript meet the standards of the journal and is ready for the copyediting and publication process.
2. Revisions required: Minor revisions are needed, which can be re-reviewed by the referee or accepted by the editor.
3. Resubmit for review: Major revisions are required with another round of peer
4. Resubmit elsewhere: The manuscript does not fit and meet the standards of the journals or the journal’s focus and scope.
5. Decline submission: The manuscript is rejected due to significant weakness and not meeting the journal’s standards.

5.  Duration of review process

The duration of the review process relies on the referees’ responsiveness. Typically, the review process will take about 1 to 3 months.

6.  Final report and decision

Based on the referee report and suggestion, along with revision done by the authors, the editor will have the final say on to whether to accept or reject the manuscript. The decision will then be sent to the author(s) by email.

Open Access Policy

RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access.

Mengenai Jurnal

RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya merupakan satu inisiatif Unit Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya Melayu, Jabatan Pengajian Bahasa, SLCP untuk menyemarakkan kegiatan penulisan ilmiah berimpak tinggi. Kehadiran RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya diharap dapat membuka ruang kepada para cendekiawan dan para pelajar (khususnya pelajar pascasiswazah) untuk bersama-sama menyebarluaskan hasil penyelidikan berkaitan pengurusan isu-isu bahasa, sastera, dan budaya dalam lingkungan dunia Austronesia dan Malayonesia, selari dengan bidang tujahan UUM, iaitu universiti pengurusan terkemuka.

RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya mengalu-alukan penghantaran makalah berkualiti dalam bahasa Melayu dan Inggeris yang memfokuskan penyelidikan dan inovasi antara disiplin, serta refleksi isu tumpuan jurnal.

RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya diindeks oleh MyJurnal, Google Scholar,  Cross-Ref, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Open Alex, ROAD, Scientific Indexing Services (SIS) dan Asian Science Citation Index (ASCI).

Jurnal ini diterbitkan sekali setahun (Julai) dan tidak mengenakan sebarang bayaran untuk penghantaran dan pemprosesan makalah.

Proses Pewasitan

RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya komited untuk menegakkan standard etika penerbitan yang tertinggi serta menyokong amalan penyelidikan yang beretika. Para penilai RENTAS mematuhi Garis Panduan Etika untuk Penilai yang dikeluarkan oleh COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics). Keseluruhan proses pewasitan amat penting bagi memastikan integriti rekod ilmiah. Proses ini sangat bergantung kepada kepercayaan dan menuntut semua pihak yang terlibat bertindak secara bertanggungjawab dan beretika.

Penilai memainkan peranan utama dalam proses ini, namun mereka sering memikul tanggungjawab tersebut tanpa panduan yang mencukupi dan mungkin tidak menyedari sepenuhnya tanggungjawab etika mereka. Garis Panduan Etika COPE untuk Penilai merangkumi prinsip dan piawaian asas yang perlu dipatuhi oleh semua penilai semasa proses penilaian dijalankan. Garis panduan ini bertujuan memberikan panduan yang berguna kepada penyelidik, menjadi rujukan kepada jurnal dan editor dalam mengarah penilai mereka, serta berfungsi sebagai bahan latihan bagi institusi yang melatih pelajar dan penyelidik.

1. Kaedah Penilaian

RENTAS: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastera dan Budaya menggunakan proses penilaian secara double blind, yang memastikan identiti penilai tidak diketahui oleh penulis sepanjang dan selepas proses semakan, dan begitu juga sebaliknya. Penulis mestilah mengemukakan halaman judul (yang mengandungi maklumat penuh penulis) secara berasingan daripada manuskrip utama.

2. Proses Pemilihan Penilai

Penilai dipilih berdasarkan kepakaran mereka yang berkaitan dengan manuskrip yang dihantar. Pangkalan data penilai RENTAS sentiasa dikemas kini. RENTAS menerima cadangan penilai daripada penulis, namun cadangan tersebut tidak mengikat dan mungkin tidak digunakan. Setiap manuskrip akan disemak oleh sekurang-kurangnya dua penilai bebas, sebelum editor membuat keputusan akhir.

3. Laporan Penilai

Penilai akan diminta untuk menilai manuskrip berdasarkan kriteria berikut:

• Manuskrip menunjukkan keaslian dari segi pemikiran, metodologi dan dapatan.
• Kajian dilaksanakan secara metodologi yang kukuh.
• Manuskrip membentangkan hasil kajian dengan jelas, termasuk analisis statistik yang menyokong kesimpulan.
• Manuskrip membuat rujukan dengan betul dan menyeluruh terhadap kajian-kajian terdahulu yang berkaitan.
• Manuskrip mematuhi garis panduan etika yang sewajarnya, terutamanya berkaitan isu plagiat.
• Kajian menyumbang secara signifikan kepada ilmu pengetahuan dan kemajuan bidang tersebut.

Pembetulan bahasa bukan sebahagian daripada proses penilaian, namun penilai boleh mencadangkan penambahbaikan dari segi gaya dan bahasa. Dalam pusingan akhir, editor akan menyemak manuskrip untuk ketepatan bahasa dan gaya, dan boleh melakukan atau mencadangkan pembetulan yang diperlukan. Dalam kes tertentu, penulis mungkin diminta melakukan penyuntingan atau semakan bahasa secara menyeluruh.

4. Proses Semakan

Setelah menerima jemputan e-mel untuk menyemak artikel jurnal, penilai perlu memberi maklum balas dengan menekan pautan yang disediakan untuk mengesahkan kesediaan mereka. Seterusnya, penilai boleh meneruskan langkah-langkah yang dinyatakan dalam laman web. Penilai boleh mengisi ruangan ulasan untuk penulis atau memuat naik fail yang mengandungi ulasan. Selepas itu, setiap penilai perlu membuat keputusan awal dengan memilih salah satu daripada pilihan berikut:

• Accept submission: Manuskrip memenuhi standard jurnal dan sedia untuk proses penyuntingan serta penerbitan.
• Revisions required: Pembetulan kecil diperlukan dan boleh disemak semula oleh penilai atau diterima oleh editor.
• Resubmit for review: Pembetulan besar diperlukan dan memerlukan satu lagi pusingan semakan.
• Resubmit elsewhere: Manuskrip tidak sesuai atau tidak memenuhi fokus dan skop jurnal.
• Decline submission: Manuskrip ditolak kerana kelemahan ketara dan tidak memenuhi standard jurnal.

5. Tempoh Proses Semakan

Tempoh proses semakan bergantung kepada respons penilai. Kebiasaannya, proses ini mengambil masa antara 1 hingga 3 bulan.

6. Laporan dan Keputusan Akhir

Berdasarkan laporan dan cadangan penilai, serta pembetulan yang dilakukan oleh penulis, editor akan membuat keputusan muktamad sama ada untuk menerima atau menolak manuskrip. Keputusan tersebut akan dimaklumkan kepada penulis melalui e-mel.
